Sing Better in Half an Hour

Cheeky Monkey has taught other monkeys to sing since the early 1980s, mainly in workshops of up to 60, excited participants. Here are some beginner's tips to start you off. Even if you've been told that you can't sing, 99% of monkeys can. You just have to practise the techniques, which Cheeky practised for two hours a day for two years to develop his vocal skills. Here is what some say about his voice.

"Pav - thank you for sharing your unique and excellent voice! You rock! I enjoyed every minute listening to you. God bless!" Bud and Tina Frederick, Pennsylvania, USA

"I have heard Pav sing live and he has an incredible voice, with amazing power and control. Love and light," Xanthe, Northern Rivers, Australia

"I have heard Pav sing live and he has a great range. Good control and most of all good sound." Tom Hutchen, Gold Coast, Australia

"Pav's vocals are great in the studio but awesome live!" Sharyn Alderton, Gold Coast, Australia

The Breath of Power is the Breath of Beauty

Feel your skin. How smooth is it? Feel your cheeks. How lifted are they? Feel your larynx (voicebox). How lifted is it?

Then make a big smile and and breathe through your nose several times. Feel how your larynx lifts.

Then breathe through your mouth. Feel how your larynx relaxes down.

What  position does your larynx need to be in to sing - up or down? Up.

But you can't sing and breathe through your nose at the same time. Hum yes, sing no.

You have to breathe out through your mouth to sing.

Now feel your larynx again. Place the tip of your tongue over your bottom teeth and onto the back of your bottom lip, as babies do. Just below the back of your bottom lip is a horizontal groove. Feel it with your tongue.

Now place your tongue in the middle of that groove. Push forward and notice that it makes your lower belly press out the air more strongly. Then notice how it makes the column of air that rises into your mouth hit the roof of your mouth.

The roof of your mouth is your sounding board. A guitar has strings but it's the box that creates the sound. Your mouth is the box or resonating chamber, and its roof is the sounding board.

Each of us has a differently shaped sounding board, so each of us has a different vocal tone. You may prefer the vocal tone of some singers to others. Hopefully you like your own.

To hear your own well place your hands in a loving curve behind your ears. Keep your fingers together, side by side. This will catch more sound.

To hear your voice as others hear you place your hands in front of your ears - again, in the same, loving curve. Notice that you hear more of  your voice with hands behind your ears. so you could be your harshest, vocal critic.

Now push your tongue far forward in the middle of the groove. Notice that it makes you breathe out more strongly in your lower belly.

Now breathe in through your nose with your tongue forward and a big smile. This lifts your larynx into the perfect position for singing as well. Now sing as you breathe out through your mouth.

That's right. Breathe in through your nose with a big smile and your tongue forward, then breathe out through your mouth adding sound. THAT'S how you sing!

Practise this before breakfast, lunch and bedtime every day to boost your vocal ability.

Now feel your skin and feel your cheeks. After doing this Breath of Power so many times, your skin will be smoother and your cheeks lifted and toned - firmer. Your just boosted your voice and beautified your face at the same time!

Practise this Breath of Beauty every day to look better, feel better and sound better every day. Look younger - skin. Feel younger - muscles. Sound younger - voice. Skin, muscles and voice! Rejuvenate yourself for FREE!
